In a commendable effort to promote environmental consciousness, Green Energy Asia (GEA) recently joined forces with SMK Raja Perempuan (RPS), located in Ipoh, Perak, for an enlightening event titled “Bicara Sahabat Alam: Minyak Masak Terpakai” (Conversations with Nature: Used Cooking Oil). The event took place on October 11, 2023, at Dewan SMK Raja Perempuan Ipoh, and saw active participation from students and teachers spanning from Form 1 to Form 4.
This initiative stemmed from the dedicated efforts of the school’s Environment Club, operating under the capable guidance of Pn Umaimah bt Harith, a passionate advocate for sustainable practices. The primary objective of the program was to encourage RPS students and staff to collect used cooking oil (UCO) from their households, which would subsequently be gathered by GEA for eco-friendly disposal and transformation.
The highlight of the event was a compelling talk delivered by GEA’s representative, shedding light on the safe utilization and ethical disposal of cooking oil. The discourse delved into the environmental and health impacts associated with improper handling of used cooking oil. GEA’s representative also discussed the cutting-edge technology employed by the organization to convert UCO into Biodiesel and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), elucidating the profound benefits and positive environmental impact of such initiatives.
Following the informative session, GEA engaged the students with a quiz, testing their knowledge on the discussed topics. The quiz was met with enthusiasm, and participants were rewarded with prizes for their engagement and understanding of the crucial subject matter.
The event reached its conclusion with a symbolic gesture as GEA presented SMK Raja Perempuan with a certificate of appreciation, acknowledging the school’s exemplary initiative in promoting ethical disposal of used cooking oil. This collaborative effort stands as a testament to the power of education and collective action in fostering a sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
